THE PARTY'S OVER!!!!
Two hundred and thirty seven folks attended this third year ALL class reunion. From most all the reviews... it was a great success.
There were thirty-four classes represented. Highlighted were the class of 1961, the class of 1965 and the class of 1981 who all held separate functions the evening before or at noon on the 13th, but then came to the All Walsenburg Class Reunion,
Classmates came from fifteen states: Colorado, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Kansas, Tennessee, Massachusetts, New York, Alaska, Virginia, California, Montana, Maryland, South Carolina and Hawaii.
There were twenty one Colorado cities other than Walsenburg represented.
Peggy Redpath Wahl, her husband David and sister Virla Downey came from Mount Albert, Ontario, Canada and received a gift for coming from out of the United States.
Donald and Evie Nugent received a gift for coming the farthest...from Millani, Hawaii.
Johanna Fink Micek represented the earliest class there, the St. Mary Class of 1934.
Dan and Viola Pacheco celebrated their 40th anniversary which was on the 13th by attending the reunion.
Thanks to a wonderful reunion committee who makes it all come together when it matters.....

Thanks to all classmates who donated special items for the auction table.
Dan Scarcella at .38 Special Wine and Liquor sold us our liquor at a discount so our proceeds could go to a great cause which was El Fandango (this will help them with the rent they pay on the Fox Theatre).

EL FANDANGO ENTERTAINED Gretchen Sporleder Orr and Mary Jo Micek Tesitor brought some of the El Fandango dancers to entertain during dinner and gave us a hour performance from various areas of Mexico. To allow time for costume changes, Mary Jo explained the hard work that goes into keeping this wonderful group together to preserve our Hispanic Heritage and keep young people involved with something beautiful and fun to do.
El Fandango has been around ovr 50 years and they are keeping this wonderful tradition alive.

TESITOR and ORR HONORED
Mary Jo Micek Tesitor and Gretchen Orr were awarded the CAROLYN NEWMAN COMMUNITY PROMOTION AWARD this year for their work for the past 12 years keeping the wonderful El Fandango tradition alive as well as encouraging Huerfano County young people to celebrate the grand musical traditions of the Southwest and Mexico.
The two will receive the money from the Silent Auction at the Reunion and the proceeds from the bar to use as they need for both El Fandango and the renovation of the Fox Theatre which totalled $1,800.

Making a Difference Award
Huerfano Journalist Carol Dunn was awarded the 'Making a Difference' Award for helping us all see the humor of daily life in Huerfano County and Southern Colorado through her "Despite This We Stay" weekly column. Thanks Carol for observing, listening, and yes.....loving it here and encouraging people to take a look around us each day to enjoy life.
(Note Carol had to be out of town and Gretchen Orr accepted the award on Carol's behalf.)
